A number of foals are due to arrive in Australia in August resulting from mares served to Southern Hemisphere time to superstar stallions Tapit and Frankel.
A batch of eight U.S.-bred mares were put to Tapit at Gainesway in Kentucky last September and October and imported to Australia this year and are booked into the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale at the Gold Coast over the four days from Tuesday to Friday next week.
A 2001 grey foal, the 3x4 Mr. Prospector inbred Tapit (by the A.P. Indy sire Pulpit and from a mare by Unbridled) has been champion sire in the U.S. for the last three seasons, setting new American records for earnings in each of them, and is currently #4 in the TRC Global Rankings.
On a fee in Kentucky this year of US$300,000, Tapit has had his first nine crops earn over US$106million, including 95 stakes winners, 21 of them at G1 level. He has had 20 yearlings each sell for $1million or more.
Strong pedigrees
He had a filly bred to Southern Hemisphere time sell for $700,000 at the Gold Coast in January and two others at the Easter sale at $300,000 each. The first of the Easter lots, a grey filly on account of the Vinery Stud, is from Dixie Smile, one of the eight mares served by Tapit in the Gold Coast National catalogue.
Vinery is to submit four of these mares and the others are all on account of Newgate Farm, Aberdeen, Hunter Valley. They all possess strong black-type pedigrees.
There are six mares in the catalogue mated to Frankel on Southern Hemisphere time at Juddmonte Farm in England. The mares are Up To You (by Giant’s Causeway), Vicennalia (More Than Ready), Enchanted Dawn (War Front), Etched (Dansili), Gwenella (Authorized) and Harlech (Pivotal).
The daughters of Tapit and Frankel are among a host of Gold Coast mares likely to have foals by top-rank sires in the Australian spring.
