A look at some of the notable achievers across the TRC Global Rankings after last week’s Group and Graded races around the world.
Ryan Moore pulls further ahead
Three Group winners last week have extended Ryan Moore’s massive lead at the top of the TRC Global Jockeys’ Rankings to 53 points.
At Newbury on Saturday, Moore partnered Rhododendron in the G1 Lockinge Stakes and G3 scorer Crystal Ocean, while at Naas a day later he took another G3, this time on Sioux Nation. It all added up to an extra three ranking points week on week.
Australian jockey Damian Lane matched Moore, and gains five points into the bargain, moving from #24 to #20 after a G3 treble at Morphettville (aboard Pleasuring, Marcel From Madrid and Land Of Plenty).
There were riding doubles for world #5 Frankie Dettori at York (G2s on Coronet and Stradivarius), and at Pimlico for #8 Jose Ortiz (G3s on Ultra Brat and Irish War Cry) and Ricardo Santana (G3s on Switzerland and Song Of Spring). Santana gains seven points and is now #76 (up from 94).
Gosden dominates at the Dante
Newmarket trainer John Gosden was the sole member of his profession worldwide to land three Group or Graded wins - all G2s at York’s Dante Festival: Stradivarius, Coronet and impressive Dante Stakes scorer Roaring Lion, who has emerged as the chief danger to favourite Saxon Warrior in the Epsom Derby. All this is good for a five-point rise for Gosden, but he remains world #6.
In the U.S., #34 Graham Motion and #99 Wesley Ward had G3 training doubles. The former struck at Pimlico (Ultra Brat and Irish War Cry), and the latter at Belmont Park (Nootka Sound) and Pimlico (Happy Like A Fool).
The week’s highest climber
Italian trainer Alduino Botti bolstered the record of his family’s considerable dynasty with the 1-3 in the G2 Italian Derby on Sunday (Summer Festival and Flower Party). The second, Henry Mouth, is trained by his son, Stefano, who is world-ranked 86.
Alduino also sent out G3 winner Chasedown and is the week’s top climber with a gain of 19 points and a rise from #356 to #153. Alduino has been champion trainer in Italy (with his brother, Giuseppe) more than 30 times, and has returned to greater prominence recently, coinciding with certain administrative issues.
