Top-notch turf sire Kitten’s Joy, standing at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Kentucky, reached #8 in the TRC Global Rankings for the first time in January, and he is heading back in that direction again after his son Roaring Lion won Saturday’s G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park, one of the most prestigious races in Europe.
The Ken and Sarah Ramsey-owned 17-year-old gains three points week on week in the sires’ standings, climbing four places to #11. He is also the sires of the fourth, Godolphin’s Hawkbill, a past winner of the Eclipse.
And another of his runners, Dividisero, annexed the G3 Arlington Handicap on the other side of the Atlantic on the same day.
One week after posting a career-best world ranking, Roaring Lion’s jockey Oisin Murphy (+4pts, 21 from #23) did it again. It was his first G1 on British soil. Among riders with ‘Great Britain’ as their Modal Country, only #1 Ryan Moore, #5 Frankie Dettori, #8 William Buick and #20 James Doyle rank higher.
Roaring Lion put up the best performance of the week, according to Racing Post Ratings, with a mark of 123. (See video above.)
His trainer, John Gosden (+1pt, stays #5), and owner Qatar Racing (+2pts, #29 from #34) also gained rankings points.
Another stallion heading in the right direction after Saturday’s action at Sandown Park is Godolphin’s Iffraaj (+2pts, #13 from #15). He spent three weeks as high as #10 earlier in the year. He has another very smart runner in Judicial, winner of the G3 Coral Charge at Sandown.
Judicial’s owners, the highly successful Elite Racing Club, rise 49 places to #74.
