Godolphin on form at Maisons-Laffitte
Jockey Mickael Barzalona (+4pts, up to world #22 from #24), owner Godolphin (+2pts, stays #2) and trainer Andre Fabre (+3pts, stays #8) combined to great effect at Maisons-Laffitte, winning the G2 Prix Eugene Adam with Gyllen and the G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis with Inns Of Court.
Big climb for Marco
Top climber of the week was Newmarket trainer Marco Botti, who gained 12pts and 67 places to climb to #113 after authoring a pair of G3 wins at York, the John Smith’s Silver Cup with Dylan Mouth and the William Hill Summer Stakes with Raven’s Lady.
New to the top 20
Jockey Oisin Murphy (+2pts, #20 from #21) achieved another landmark when entering the world’s top 20 jockeys for the first time. He punched home Beat The Bank to win the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot for trainer Andrew Balding (+5pts, #61 from #75) and owners King Power Racing (+4pts, #133 from #205).
Phoenix on the rise
Phoenix Thoroughbreds have some lofty ambitions in the sport. You can trace their ascendancy towards the world’s elite uniquely via TRC Global Rankings. Advertise’s win in the G2 July Stakes at Newmarket provokes a 4pt gain and a rise of 54 places to world #123 owner.
Advertise was another key winner for Whitsbury Manor Stud’s Showcasing (+4pts, #57 from #67). He also meant a 5pt gain for Martyn Meade (+5pts, #76 from #91), who trains at the lavish Manton complex in Wiltshire.
Another Dubawi prospect
Godolphin superstar sire Dubawi (+2pts, stays #2) gained 3pts and cemented his status as second only to the great Galileo (no gain, stays #1) with G2 Superlative Stakes winner Quorto at Newmarket and G3 Prix Chloe heroine Crown Walk at Chantilly. Quorto looks a highly promising juvenile.
The Alpha Centauri effect
Another brilliant win from elite 3-year-old filly Alpha Centauri saw significant gains for her connections, jockey Colm O’Donoghue (+4pts, #75 from #84), owner Niarchos Family (+3pts, #18 from #20), trainer Jessica Harrington (+5pts, #83 from #102) and sire Mastercraftsman (+3pts, #22 from #25).
Harrington remains the world’s third highest-ranked female trainer.
Pollyanna excitement
Owners Bill and Tim Gredley (+4pts, #31 from #43) have a potential star on their hands in the shape of wide-margin G2 Duchess of Cambridge scorer Pretty Pollyanna. The flying juvenile filly also provided gains for jockey Silvestre De Sousa (+4pts, #118 from #136), trainer Michael Bell (+3pts, #80 from #87) and sire Oasis Dream (+5pts, #130 from #164).
Medaglia d’Oro’s versatility
Medaglia d’Oro (+4pts, #13 from #19) has proven himself one of the best stallions around and is a former world #5. He showcased his influence across different surfaces and continents with G2 Delaware Handicap winner Elate on dirt in the U.S. and G2 Prix Eugene Adam hero Gyllen on turf in Europe.
The calm before Saratoga
On the eve of Saratoga, there were just five Graded stakes in the U.S. Trainer Bob Baffert cemented his U.S. #1 status with G3 Los Alamitos Derby winner Once On Whiskey, also a winner for jockey Flavien Prat (+3pts, #17 from #18), owner Mike Pegram (+2pts, #49 from #55) and sire Bodemeister (+3pts, #134 from #156).
