James Willoughby picks out the jockey, trainer, owner and sire who made the biggest impact in the TRC Global Rankings week that ended on Sunday.
TRC JOCKEY OF THE WEEK
Super talented French rider ALEXIS BADEL authored a series of astonishing strikes against the odds during the last Hong Kong season. This week, TRC Global Jockey Rankings had the chance to recognise his talent after a three-for-three haul in Group races in Europe.
He gains a huge 18pts, rising 125 places to #141 in the world after a G3 score at Maisons Laffitte, France, and G2 and G3 strikes at the meeting in San Siro, Italy, on Sunday.
TRC OWNER OF THE WEEK
Segenhoe Stud in New South Wales is one of the most historic farms in Australia, most recently responsible for breeding Royal Ascot's G1 Diamond Jubilee winner Merchant Navy.
We classify the ownership entity associated with the Segenhoe Group and their partners as SEGENHOE THOROUGHBREDS ET AL, which is credited with two G3 winners this week, JRA Trophy scorer Miss Admiration at Rosehill and Boost Stakes heroine Winter Bride at Caulfield. The pair catalysed a 9pt gain for our new #62 owner, now 8/57 (14 percent strike rate) with 18 different horses.
TRC TRAINER OF THE WEEK
Honourable mention to Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, William Haggas, Chris Waller and Charlie Appleby (again), but it has to be STEVE ASMUSSEN even though the U.S. Hall of Famer needed an assist from the stewards at Philadelphia Park to complete a hat-trick.
The trainer of Curlin, Gun Runner and Rachel Alexandra was awarded the G1 Cotillion after Midnight Bisou was hampered by Monomoy Girl, but Switzerland (G3 Dash at Laurel) and Union Strike (G2 Gallant Bloom at Belmont) required no such help. New world #15 Asmussen gains 6pts and three slots.
TRC SIRE OF THE WEEK
Prolific sprint sire KODIAC has a deserved reputation for tough, successful stock. They are classy too, which is not surprising coming from a son of Danehill and the classic-winning mare Rafha, who also bred former world #5 sire Invincible Spirit.
The pride of the O’Callaghan family’s Tally-Ho Stud in County Westmeath, Ireland, has a G1/G2/G3 triple-slash of 2/5/12 in the current three-year window - a career best. He’s been a Top 100 sire for a total of 114 weeks now and bolstered his record with G2 Mill Reef scorer Kessaar at Newbury, England, and G2 Prix Eclipse winner Sporting Chance at Maisons Laffitte, France.
