James Willoughby picks out the jockey, trainer, owner and sire who made the biggest impact on the TRC Global Rankings in the week that ended on Sunday.
TRC JOCKEY OF THE WEEK
The brilliant James McDonald (+7pts, #31 from #40) is on the way back after his ban, but UK-based Italian ANDREA ATZENI (+6pts, #25 from #26) has to earn top honours, with two G1 wins (Canadian International, E P Taylor Stakes) at Woodbine from two rides.
TRC OWNER OF THE WEEK
Australia’s HERMITAGE SYNDICATE (+4pts, #62 from #75) get the nod. Their red-and-green livery shot to victory in the G1 Caulfield Guineas on massively impressive The Autumn Sun, a very good colt. They added a third in the G3 Craven Plate at Randwick.
TRC TRAINER OF THE WEEK
Though outpunched in 2018 by chief rival Chris Waller (1025pts, world #9), our Australian #1 trainer remains DARREN WEIR (1042pts, world #6) who ran 22 horses in counting races this week and scored a pair of G1s at Caulfield, the Thousand Guineas and Toorak Handicap.
TRC SIRE OF THE WEEK
It has to be DUBAWI (+4pts, remains world #1) again. The Godolphin phenom had G1 winners in Great Britain (Dewhurst Stakes, Newmarket, Too Darn Hot) and Australia (Ladbrokes Stakes, Caulfield, Benbatl) plus a G2 winner. He has 23 Group wins since July.
