With the European season now in full flow, longtime former world #1 Galileo, who has been playing second fiddle to Dubawi for several months, is showing signs of a resurgence.
TRC SIRE OF THE WEEK
This is a big win for the great GALILEO (+4pts, stays #2) who – along with jockey Ryan Moore, owner Coolmore Partners and trainer Aidan O’Brien – put his name on three trophies this week, notably the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas (Hermosa) and G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (Magical), both at the Curragh.
Galileo now has ten wins on the year, good for joint-fourth behind world #1 Dubawi (who also has highest strike rate of the group) in the table beneath aggregating Group and Graded wins for 2019 alone:
With the Derby meeting at Epsom tomorrow and Saturday, and Royal Ascot on the agenda in the next month, the European-centric sires in the table appear likely to dominate still further.
Incidentally, with the link between the rankings of Galileo and Aidan O’Brien, and Dubawi and Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby, appearing so strong in the rankings these days, we thought it might be interesting to look at the top trainer-sire combinations in world racing – just in terms of aggregate success – since our data commenced in 2011.
The data shows the immense influence of certain sires in the career of outstanding trainers around the world. O’Brien has proved such a dominant force in global racing that he appears three times in the table of top combinations.
