Continuing a series celebrating Secretariat’s legacy through his remaining offspring, a 2021 calendar featuring the last living sons and daughters of the legendary 1973 Triple Crown winner is now available.
It’s the fourth annual fund-raising calendar in what has become a tradition of generating revenue for equine charities, a group that now includes Bright Futures Farm, Old Friends, and Victory Alliance Ranch.
“It is humbling to see how the racing industry, and Secretariat fans in particular, have embraced this calendar series,” said writer-photographer Patricia McQueen, whose creative project is part of her research work on Secretariat as a sire. “The first three calendars have raised more than $14,000 for the designated charities, funds sorely needed to provide homes and special care for horses in need.”I
nterestingly, all four known living offspring of Secretariat are chestnuts that draw immediate comparisons to their sire. On the cover is 31-year-old Trusted Company, a big, flashy mare who lives at Bright Futures Farm. The two oldest known Secretariats are 32-year-olds Ball Chairman, a G1 producer, and Border Run, a stakes-placed full brother to Terlingua and Pancho Villa.
The youngster of the group is 30-year-old Secret Of The Sea, one of the last Secretariats born in 1990.
Six Secretariat grandsons and a granddaughter are also featured in the 2021 calendar.
Ball Chairman’s son Perfect Soul joins his dam in the group; the G1 winner and sire is now a pensioned stallion. Making his third appearance in this series is 28-year-old Istabraq, a legend over the hurdles in the UK and his native Ireland. Two residents of Old Friends are included – recent arrival Mystery Trip, the last foal of Weekend Surprise, and Riva Way, by Secretariat’s popular two-time Pacific Classic winner Tinners Way. Riva Way’s broodmare sire is Meadow Stable colorbearer Riva Ridge.
Rounding out the group is another son of Tinners Way, Tinner’s Storm; Cool Valley Cowboy, the final foal produced by Horse of the Year Lady’s Secret; and Chosen Deputy, whose dam Chosen Lady is a G1 producer and full sister to Secretariat’s stakes-winning son Academy Award.
Last but certainly not least, the Tony Leonard Collection continues to generously support this calendar series with a beautiful portrait of Secretariat taken by the late, great photographer.
As noted, all profits from the sale of the calendar are allocated to three worthy organizations, each of which has been a caretaker of at least one of the horses in this series.
They are Bright Futures Farm, an equine rescue and sanctuary accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance; Old Friends, another TAA-accredited organization; and Victory Alliance Ranch, an equine rescue and sanctuary supporting veterans and special needs children.
The calendars are available for $25 each at SecretariatsLegacy.com. Free shipping within the U.S. is included.
