Godolphin’s G1-winning sprinter Profitable is the narrow favourite in the betting market for leading first-season sire in Britain and Ireland.
A winner of the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, the former Clive Cox-trained son of Invincible Spirit is priced at 3/1 to have the most winners in the opening show by British bookmaker Fitzdares, followed by a brace of Coolmore stallions in Caravaggio and Churchill at 4/1.
The company said Reigning Tally Ho Stud, responsible for last year’s winner Mehmas, has Cotai Glory, already the subject of a £1,000 wager, at 5/1.
“We love pricing this market, which would be impossible to price were it not for Weatherbys Stallion Book [pictured] used alongside the Weatherbys Return of Mares,” said Ed Guiver, Fitzdares’ Head of Horseracing.
“It was hard to split the front four in the market, but Profitable by the sire of sires in Invincible Spirit has got the nod. That said, the sector is not without a bevy of shrewd judges so market movers will be telling.
“Ulysses is a dark horse, jungle drums suggest he’s produced some early types, and we suspect Ribchester will have his fans. If he had more on the ground, Time Test would have been shorter odds for sure,” added Guiver.
Mehmas was available at odds of 5/1 in the early market last year.
